An Operating System (OS) is basic software that allows the user to efficiently manage the resources of a computer. In addition, it acts as a link between the applications, the hardware, and the user. There are many types of operating systems

Every operating system has five functions:

Manage resources
Grant support and utility service.
Provide an interface to the user.
Manage tasks and also files.

Types of operating systems

Types Operating systems can be classified as follows:

1. A) According to the administration of tasks

Montara: this types of operating systems are able to manage a program or perform only one task at a time. They are the oldest. For example, if the user is scanning, the computer will not respond to new instructions or start a new process. – Multitasking: this feature is typical of the most advanced OS and allows you to run several processes at once, from one or more computers, that is, they can be used by several users at the same time. This can be done through remote sessions a network or through terminals connected to a computer.

2. B) According to the user administration :

– Single user: Only one user can be answered at a time. In this way, any user has access to the system data. There is a single user that can perform any type of operation.

– Multiuser: this feature is typical of those OS in which several users can access their services. And processing at the same time. In this way, they satisfy the needs of several users who are using the same resources, be it memory, programs, processor, printers, scanners, among others.

List of operating systems

DOS

It was the first system developed by Microsoft. Its acronyms correspond toDisk Operating System or Disk Operating System. In the beginning, DOS quickly gained high popularity in the incipient market of PCs, back in the 90s. Practically all software developed for PCs was created to work in this OS

Windows 3.1

Microsoft takes the initiative again and develops an operating system with a graphical interface, easy to use for the average user. This is how Windows was born, with a system of windows with graphically identifiable files through icons. The mouse starts to be used in the interaction with the system, speeding up and facilitating any type of task.

Windows 95

Microsoft again makes a big leap and launches a much-improved version of Windows 3.1back in 1995 at the height of the PC market, and calls windows 95. Over the years, Microsoft was updating this system, launching Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, until arriving at the recently launched Windows 10. Windows NT

Microsoft releases the Windows NT ( New Technology) version aimed at workstations and network servers. It was distributed in two versions, Workstation(to be used in workstations) andServer(to be mounted on network servers).

OS /2

This system, manufactured by IBM, tried to replace DOS as the operating system of the PCs. Its version 1.0 was launched with 16-bit architecture in 1987. Then updated in its version 2.0 to the 32-bit architecture, thanks to the Intel 80386 processor. It did not have good reception in the market, as it did not have the support of a large part of the software developers, who turned to the creation of programs for Windows.

Mac OS / Mac OS X

The Mac OS ( Macintosh or Operating System) is an operating system created by Apple Inc. and intended exclusively for Macintosh computers sold by the same company. Launched for the first time in 1985, it evolved until 2002, the year in which version 10 (known as Mac OS X )was launched, which changed its architecture and went on to be based on UNIX. It is a very user-friendly system, you learn to use it fairly quickly.

Unix

Developed in 1969 by AT & T, it is a portable, multitasking and multi-user OS, running on a wide variety of computers (mainframes, PCs, Workstations, supercomputers).
