Today we will see how to partially fix one of the most well-known PlayStation 4 problems. Want to reduce fan noise? Next, we will see the best method to clean your console so that the noise is not so powerful.
PS4 has been with us for a few years now and has shared many experiences and hours of play. Therefore, to keep it working at the best quality, it is highly recommended to keep it clean and in good condition. This will extend its useful life and allow us to enjoy it as if it were just released.
Surely this does not catch anyone new. The ventilation system of the PlayStation 4 generates a lot of noise and on some occasions, it can be annoying and even make users have qualms when playing with it for fear of it being damaged.
But fear not, as the secret to reducing console noise, at least in part, also lies in a very simple action: properly cleaning the console. In the following lines, we explain how we can “clean up” our PS4 and with it, that its fans generate less noise.
In this little guide, we will focus on the first PS4 model and PS4 Slim. Both consoles have some variations and if you have the first version of this, you can also remove the power supply and the hard drive for more complete cleaning. Having clarified this, let’s see what tools we will need:
- Flathead screwdriver
- 3mm Phillips screwdriver
- Chamois or cloth that we can moisten
- Compressed air canister
- Cotton swabs
First of all, it will be to remove the upper case of the console. If it is the original PS4, what we must do is go to the hard drive section and press down slightly and slide to the left.
With this, we can see this first part of the console. Once open, we must remove the hard drive by unscrewing its support, and with the can of compressed air, clean it carefully. Don’t forget to clean the inside of the case with a wet chamois and wait for it to dry.
When you have completed this first part, insert the disc again, screw, and close the first “section. To access the true guts of the console you must turn it over and unscrew the rear screws that you will find near the power supply connection and on the sides Open the casing and proceed to clean it using the compressed air canister and the moistened chamois.
Now we will remove the power supply carefully. To do this, you will have to unscrew and remove some small metal parts. With great care you must remove the power supply without losing the connection to the console, so we suggest that you rest it against the table. Now, you can clean this part with compressed air. If you see that there is a lot of dust, you can always go over the corners with the cotton swabs for a better finish.
Do not be afraid to “pull the trigger” of the compressed air canister, both in the power supply and its slots and above all, in the fan. You can go over its blades with the cotton bud, too.
If many years have passed, don’t panic if you find a good amount of dust. With the compressed air, everything will be cleared. Once you have everything ready, reverse the opening process and your PS4 should have reduced the fan noise. There is nothing like a good shower.
On the other hand, if you have the Slim model, it is much easier to clean. The first step is to separate the shell from the console. You just need to push the top front corners up slightly and the plastic should be able to be removed.
Remember to clean this case and then remove all the screws that hold a light-colored piece that protects the interior of the console. Once we have our PS4 naked, it’s time to give it a few jets of compressed air. Repeat the process we have seen previously with the original PlayStation model and put each item back in place.
And with this, everything would be. The fan noise should have been reduced since there shouldn’t be so much dust now and our console wouldn’t get so hot and it wouldn’t be forced to work more than necessary. You always have to try to have a console like the jets of gold. In case you have been left with the desire to improve the operation of the console controls, we also tell you how to fix one of the most common problems of the PS4 Dualshock.
