How to check battery health of an iPhone

The state of the battery is something fundamental in any mobile device since that component will largely depend on the experience of use that we will enjoy in our day to day life. We share how to check battery health of an iPhone.

Equipment that uses lithium-ion batteries has a limited number of charge cycles. This means that when we exceed that number of cycles, the state of the battery begins to degrade, a normal problem that is associated with the wear of it.

A slightly worn battery will present a smaller loss of its holding capacity, which means that as users we will notice a lower autonomy, that is, it will hold less time until we have to reload it.

There is nothing we can do to prevent the state of a mobile device’s battery from degrading with use, although there are some basic rules that can help us reduce its impact :

  • Avoid sources of intense heat.
  • Do not use the device while it is charging.
  • Prevent it from being completely discharged.

With the release of iOS 11.3, Apple decided to introduce a new feature called “Battery Health”. As its name suggests, it allows us to check the state in which it is located both in terms of capacity and performance.

This is very important, because when significant deterioration occurs, not only does it lose autonomy. But it may also be unable to meet the processor’s energy demands when it faces heavy workloads. If this happens, the iPhone may go out.

To avoid this problem, Apple introduced the low power mode, an alternative that we can now activate. And deactivate at will, and which reduces the performance of the CPU to maximize autonomy. Also, avoid the problems that abnormal peak performance can generate.

These are the steps you must take to check the battery status of your iPhone if it is equipped with iOS 11.3 or higherHow to check battery health

We enter “Settings” and look for the “Battery” option.

In the first menu, we will have a series of interesting options, among which is the “low consumption mode”. We can also see a historical summary of the use of that one.

If we enter the option “Battery Health” we will see the state in which it is located. The percentage indicates its current retention capacity. And peak performance if it is able or not to feed the CPU working at maximum load. In my case, the iPhone 8 Plus that I bought in October 2017 maintains a capacity of 92% and works normally.

We remind you that a broken battery can greatly affect the experience of using your iPhone. And that the only solution to give a second life is to change it.
